I've tried using a business consultant before, it didn't work and you guys are all the same...

Sure, I understand things may have not worked out with your previous business coach or advisor. Maybe timing was off, maybe they didn't know jack or perhaps you just had a personality clash. Thing is I don't know exactly what went wrong and I can't apologize for them.

But, I can tell you what I do know –

For a couple of years now the 'consulting industry' has been touted as a business opportunity and some of these companies just create what I call 'born in box' consultants. Basically, they got a box of stuff and tiny bit of training and now follow along and advise you from 'from a book' – And, they're seriously stuffed when your situation doesn't fit into scenario A or B.

Most of the time the answers are in front of them, but because they don't really 'live it and breathe it' they can't relate the information to your situation. They can't add any value to the information, they're inflexible and robotic. There's definitely no 'rolling with the punches' here – Just a blank stare and silence when your problem or situation doesn't fit nicely into 'the workbook provided'.

Other advisors on the other hand do know their stuff and have trouble passing on the information to their clients. These guys are what I call 'buttoned up' consultants. They know their stuff inside out, upside down, but they're unable to really connect with their clients 'cos they want to keep up some sort of 'it's all business – no personality needed here'.

Now, if you take those two categories and flip 'em over… you get me.

I've been through the blood and guts of running my own business and because of it I went out and learned all the book stuff myself.

And, finally yes I do have a personality. Look at me, I'm not exactly a wallflower so it's hard not to.
